PLAINVIEW, NY (Feb. 15, 2022) The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation has announced that it’s currently seeking new members for its board of trustees. The board provides fiscal oversight and fund development for the foundation. It’s currently run by an engaged and talented board that develops unique outreach initiatives to strengthen community partnerships and improve outcomes for at-risk individuals.
“Our goal is to continue to grow the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation, and to do that, we need a talented and dedicated board of trustees,” said Dr. Dominic J. Marino, president of the board. “The foundation was launched in 2020, and we are at a place now where we are ready to grow and add to our board. We know that with the right people in place we can make a significant impact in our community.”
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation has a strong focus on fundraising. It currently directs its fundraising efforts to support three overarching funding initiatives. The Community Investment Fund enhances public and community relations for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office by supporting educational and community outreach initiatives. These sponsored events build mutual respect and understanding between the community and the Sheriff’s Office.
The Inside-Out Fund provides funding for critical continuing staff education and training that will help improve public safety, foster greater accountability, and develop culturally responsive policing. It will also help fund Sheriff’s Office-sponsored sports teams to improve morale in the law enforcement community.
The Community Service Fund provides support to programming that helps children with incarcerated parents and those who have been in county jail transition back into the community while lowering their chances of reoffending. These initiatives directly impact at-risk individuals while working to break the cycle of crime and incarceration.
“The funding initiatives are the main focus areas of our work at the foundation and we need funding to operate effectively,” added Dr. Marino. “We expect that all of our board members will have the time and willingness to help raise funding for these initiatives as well as provide oversight of the foundation.”
